Description

On Wednesday, February 10th from 6 - 9 PM, The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) in partnership with the Urban Philly Professional Network (UPPN) is proud to present the launch event for the Dr. Walter P. Lomax, Jr. Networking Society event. As an emerging leader in the region, we invite you to come to the museum to meet new people and catch up with the colleagues you know.

Join us for food, drinks and networking as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Walter P. Lomax, Jr. with the sights and sounds of our latest exhibition Drapetomania: Grupo Antillano and the Art of Afro-Cuba, featuring a playlist of Afro-Cuban music curated by DJ Rahsaan of AfroTaino.

Drapetomanía: Grupo Antillano and the Art of Afro-Cuba:
Drapetomanía: Grupo Antillano and the Art of Afro-Cuba is a tribute to Grupo Antillano (1978-1983), a forgotten visual arts and culture movement that highlights the importance of African and Afro-Carribean influences in the formation of the Cuban Nation. Grupo Antillano emphasized the centrality of African practices in national culture.

The Dr. Walter P. Lomax, Jr. Networking Society
(The Society) was conceived by Dr. Keith Leaphart to engage a new generation of leaders in the Campaign to Re-Imagine AAMP. As an ardent admirer of Dr. Lomax and a member of the AAMP Campaign Committee, Dr. Leaphart envisioned The Society as a means of infusing the Campaign with new ideas and energy that will be the hallmark of the Museum’s new era. Like Dr. Lomax, The Society’s founding members will represent an essential combination of leadership, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Members will also participate in sustaining AAMP’s vital contribution to the cultural enrichment of their families, friends, and the larger community.
